You can network 2 computers together using a "crossover" cable connected to
the network (ethernet) ports of both computers- so this requires that they
both have these- they're about $10 ea for PCI cards, as is a 6' crossover
cable.
You then turn on Appleshare in both computers' Chooser control panel and set
the appletalk control panel to "ethernet". I'm not sure if these control
panels were the same in OS7 though.   That's the basics- I can give you more
details if you want. I have a Starmax networked to my G3 Beige using a long
cable going through a hole I drilled in the floor- they're on 2 different
floors of my house. It's great for moving apps and files from 1 to the
other- superfast. I find I don't use it very often any more though, after
frequent use the 1st month.
