I have been using the SIIG brand of this exact card, and with a G3 upgrade and a 7200 RPM Ultra hard disk, it all speeded up my StarMax 4200DT a lot. I recommend it heartily. One thing I would be cautious about is putting slower items on the same cable as I think I read something recently that the speed would slow down to the 33 or 66 speed of the slowest item attached.

Just last week I put the card into my 'new' used G4 Sawtooth and it seems to be working there just as easily. However, I must caution that the system hard disk I transferred from the StarMax to the G4 didn't fare as well when added to the 40 wire cable that came with the G4 - it not only didn't work but wasn't recognized, even by Apple Profiler. Norton Disk Doctor was the only thing that would find it if a search was instituted but it could do nothing to get the disk recognized and mounted. The only way I got it to be recognized was by the addition of the ATA/133/100 card and using the 80 wire cable that came with it. However to get it to be the Startup Disk, I had to transfer everything off and reinitialize it and reinstall everything - a long painful process for me.

Bottom line - the card works as advertised - I wouldn't have a large Ultra disk without it - especially on a StarMax. But, there can be unexpected problems when the hard disk it was attached to is moved to a different venue.

Subject: Acard Adapters?

While on the Acard site I looked at
some of their other products and found a PCI ATA133 card that is
supposed to work under MacOS 8.5 and up. It says it was made with the
G3 and G4 in mind. It is around $70.00 and would support 4 drives while
the SCSI adapter above will only support one. Same question about this
one. Will it work? I can see possibilities for it driving a dvdr deck
or some such as well as a hard drive and maybe even use my 250 IDE zip
drive a little more effectively.
