I don't know if you received the email, but ESA is making an "ESA
Summer of Code in Space". Bascially they give 4000 EUR for 3 months
work to students who want to work on open source projects.
We can apply to be a mentor until 15th july. See
http://sophia.estec.esa.int/socis2011/?q=tos

I think we should definitely apply.
Among the useful tasks, I would love to see someone working on the DSS
background, which I didn't finish yet. Please propose other potential
subjects.

Bogdan, you are a student: are you affiliated with another university
than Sofia (bulgaria is unfortunately not part of the applicable
states)?
Georg, you could use this opportunity to get extra students for your
extinction/3D models/DeltaT etc.. tasks.

All of the data generated in your IT infrastructure is seriously valuable.
Why? It contains a definitive record of application performance, security
threats, fraudulent activity, and more. Splunk takes this data and makes
sense of it. IT sense. And common sense.
