Hello,

I rushed back from World of Amiga with my new Pace Solo and a copy of
STFax Pro Version 3.8 on Sunday :-) I've spent a few days setting the
whole thing up, but although I think I understand the docs (for both
items), I can't seem to get things working properly.

First of all, when I load STFax I sometimes get a message that the Modem
can't be found. This seems to be intermittant and related to the
extremely long time that the Solo takes to come out of 'sleep' mode and
go through its reset cycle because if I then try again it works. I've
tried playing around with the timeout values, but nothing much seems to
help. BTW, what should the Init string be for the Pace Solo?

Once I get in, I can't seem to be able to read a received fax properly.
I have sent myself two Faxes from work, which were both happily
accepted by the Pace in independant mode (very impressive that).

The first Fax was a simple one-page cover sheet. STFax appeared to read
that back from the modem OK, but when I displayed it, the aspect ratio
was wrong; an A4 page was compressed into a square! The only mention
of anything like this in the docs seems to refer to sent faxes (use a
large font). I can hardly dictate the font size of the sender, so I
assume that there is something else amiss here.

The second fax also appeared to be read in OK, but when I displayed it,
only one page was shown. This should have been a 10 page Fax (the file
size is half a meg), but all I got was the cover sheet (compressed to a
square) and a load of garbage. Is there a known problem here?

The last thing that I have tried is using STFax to dial and answer the
phone with the aid of the speakerphone. Dialup seems to work fine, but
when I press 'Answer' STFax seems to pick-up, but I can't hear or be
heard at the other end.

I have wondered if upgrading the Solo's firmware might help, its not
currently up to V90, only 'V90 ready'. I realise that V90 shouldn't
have any bearing on this, but Pace's web site mentions that there are
some problems that are fixed by the latest firmware. Unfortunately,
the same web site also says that all Pace Modems can be updated using a
terminal program, _except the Solo_ ;-( Does anyone know of a way to
upgrade the Solo without access to a Windoze machine?

I think thats enough for now (although I haven't actually tried sending
a fax yet). I would appreciate any help.

All the Best.
