Currently only solaris ahci driver supports port multiplier, see this CR:

So please try SIL port multiplier with AHCI compatible sata controller.
Both marvell88sx driver and si3124 driver don't support port multiplier yet.

In the first case, the port multiplier shows up as a single disk:
sata1/1
instead of 5 disks:
sata1/1.0
sata1/1.1
...
The SIL driver won't even configure whatever port I have the port multiplier
plugged into.
