Dean:
Have you checked the contents of /etc/resolv.conf?  It needs to contain
the nameserver nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn references for your ISP's DNS server(s). 
Only the first three (3) nameserver lines are used so don't enter more
than three nameserver lines in /etc/resolv.conf.
