Hi,
I found the solution.
For future xf86config-ers who run into the same situation...
I've got a ps/2 mouse.
1. /dev/mouse should point to /dev/psaux
2. edit /etc/X11/XF86Config file
Protocol should be "PS/2"
Device: "/dev/mouse"
3. /etc/init.d/kdm start
I suspect that xf86config, the program, does not have a PS/2 option.

Hi,
It doesn't appear to be a conflict with the shell.
startx also fires up enlightenment instead of kde.
I've been using /etc/init.d/kdm start to start up kde.
The gpm -k trick doesn't work here. :(

I had that problem I can't remember the fix.
But I have a workaround.
B4 you startx
Do this command
gpm -k
It'll kill the mouse in the shell.
So when you startx there's no conflict.
