You are corect. This is what SMART was designed for.Im ny career as a
computer tech I've seen hundreds of these messages in the past 2 years
including in brand new computers(HP,Compaq,IBM,Toshiba,Sony)
.I've also seen a lot of bad HDD's in iMAC's which in theory have higher
quallity components then your regular PC.
Solution 1.
So get a new HDD,install windows then boot with the storm cd
when prompted for instalatin media press CTRL ALT F2
mount -rw -t auto /dev/hdb1 /mnt
chroot /mnt
lilo
Solution 2
install windows ,boot with the CD.At the first prompt type
root=/dev/hdb1
and press enter. This should start your regular linux install.
login as root ,run lilo
Now this is not tested with Stormix,it worked with debian so if this
fail fallback to nr.1
For the future install the package mkrboot and create a rescue (set of)
floppie(s).
Good luck and don't feel bad for the HDD failure.
