I'm sort of semi-doing this. I stripe my swap partitions. Works great but
of course, this is much simpler than striping data. You shouldn't have any
problems doing software-RAID, though.
I'll note that SCSI drives are _significantly_ more coin than IDE
drives. You may also want to check out the ReiserFS, which I've been using
recently, which adds a bit more reliability to your file system as well.
