You may have to install SANE from the source files with a patch, rather than from the deb packages. See: http://hem.fyristorg.com/henrikj/snapscan/ Unfortunately, there are two versions of the AGFA1212u that are marketed. The old one does not require anything special. The new one requires the patch and just as much tweaking as the HP scanners (I've no idea how to tell the old AGFA from the new AGFA). Also, I found that I had to comment out all of the other scanner types except mine in etc/sane.d/dll.conf to get it running ok. Hope to hear your success story soon. -Glen
