Look in /etc/X11/gdm/Sessions. In there you will see several files each says
about the same thing. If you "ls -al" you will notice that the Defualt is just
a symlink to whichever one is the default. Each one is a little different than
each other but KDE should have one, if not you can put it there.
To use the KDE2 login manager you need to add the kdm init file to /etc/init.d/
and remove gdm. The symlink /etc/rc5.d/S99kdm to it. That should make kdm
start.
One other thing you could try is remove the gdm from /etc/rc5.d/ and let it boot
to a console and try starting kde by using startx. Just edit you .xinitrc file
to start kde2.
