Personally I find Stormix suites my needs better that SUSE. That being
said, we have 3 SuSE workstation here that our Marine developers use.
They are going to be moved over to Stormix eventually, but it's one of
those things..."Why screw with it, if it isn't broken."
Management wants me to standardize on a single flavor of Linux in-house,
so Stormix it be.
Both have their pros and cons. SuSE is really cool with their X support,
but they are rpm based. They also do a very "traditional" UNIX file
structure, use reiserFS, and have some other cool features. If you have
a broadband connection and access to a burner, download the latest ISO
image from Linuxberg for SuSE and try it out on another drive.
My biggest bone to pick with SuSE is the fact that they use RPM as their
package management system. Other that that, I'd go SuSE over Red Hat or
Mandrake if forced to choose.
Speaking of other distros... anyone try out Stampede yet?
Cheers,
Christmas Dream list for Stormix 3.0:
- support for XFree 4.0.*
- choice of filesystems to choose from when installing (reiserFS/ext2,
ext3, XFS, etc)
- security options during install. openSSL, openSSH, etc...
- copy of one of the Loki games (other that Civ CTP) <evil grin>
- free T Shirt with every tenth download of an ISO image <ROTFL>
