Morning Frank,
The sound issue may be the following problem:
take a look at the permissions on /dev/audio. All you need to do is do
an ls -la /dev/audio
You should see:
crw-rw---- root audio audio
If not, change the file permission by typing the following as root:
chgrp audio /dev/audio
chmod g+rw /dev/audio
I am going to assume you have ran the sound config tool in SAS.
As for the dial-out problem, again this sounds like a permission
problem. <dig around in back of head to remember all the files
needed/touched to make a PPP connection>.
or the life of me, I can't remember. But try this. Log in as root in a
xterm,
type tail -f /var/log/messages
in another xterm launch your dialing program, and watch the root xterm
session to see where it is having problems. If you can even email us
back with what happens there, one of us should be able to get you up and
running.
hrms... I just realised my solution for your sound may not be the cure.
Can you get sound to work as root? What type of sound card do you have?
Cheers and TTYL,
