Dear List:

I am running Storm/hail/Debian/potato and am attempting to configure my sound
card (AOpen - Yamaha 724f - DS-1) by means of SAS. SAS then probes my system
and correctly detects my card. SAS informs me that the module/driver for
my card is unavailable. SAS halts. And that's that. No sound is configured.
I give up on SAS and go out and have a double scotch & soda. My question is
what can I do to get some sound outa this box?

I downloaded all the Alsa debs, can I try to install/configure these for
my system? Or, do I need to have a different kernel - a generic one not
patched by Stormix? How do I know if I have sound support in my 2.2.16-ide-
storm kernel or whether Alsa will even work with it?

Can someone get this newbie on the right track? (I've read Sound-HOWTO which
deals mainly with compiling a kernel with sound support.) It's hard to
imagine getting sound out of your linux box should be such a difficult
task.

Appriciate any advice and help.
