Thanks for the tips, they have given me hope.

I spent some time before bed last night trying that out. However when I
went to look at the pcmcia it looked as it had a 3c575-cd module loaded, the
pcmcia card is Texas Instruments, and when installing the system, it
identified a 3com card, but did not know which one it was.

The sound card loaded, but does not seem to be working so I will go back to
the drawing board with that, and try some others, I found the maestro
driver, but that wouldn't install. It kept saying the device was busy.

Should I be careful about the modules I install, ie. conflicts later, or if
it will install it should not cause problems.

Thanks for the help, and any more advice will be appreciated.

Rohan

I have both cards you mention and they both work. Now it was some time
ago
and don't remember exactly if I had problems.
I would use modconf as root and skip the SAS for now.modconf is quite
easy to use.Just select the card and press enter till either the driver
is loaded or not.
Don't give any parameters when asked.Just press enter.I'll check for the
exact model of my 3COM NIC.
As for sound...well same ting try to load the module with modconf and if
that works then add yourself to group audio
adduser foo audio
and see what that gives.
Now for dialing out try the storm dialer after you ahve the modem
driver loaded,
(agai I'll check for details). That ActionTec 56K modem works for a long
time with Linux.
If you don't have any luck with the StormDialer try as root in a console
wvdial .
