This is from memory so I will try to be as clear as I can.
What I remember doing was this.
apt-get remove gnome-games-locale
apt-get remove mc-common
apt-get remove libpopt0
apt-get remove libgtk1.2
apt-get -f dist-upgrade
Some things will likely be a bit goofy... you can even try a
dpkg --configure -a
after the dist-upgrade or even run the dist-upgrade one or two times
after it's done to make sure everything it needs gets taken care of.
After then I scanned through the progeny cd.
Look in the "progeny" directory, then in "misc" and install most of
that stuff. The kernel-image for 2.2.18 is in there as is a progeny-
package sets package (you will need this) and a few other odds
and end. I found that going through the "base" and "admin"
directory on the cd helpful, too. I installed just about anything I
could find that started with the work "progeny" as that will install
some of their core utilities.
After that, I went into my graphical menu under "Programs"(?) then
"system" and found the program "Add/Remove Programs" or
something and ran that. It will show a whole bunch of Package
Sets available. Click on update, then find "Minimal Progeny Install"
and "Standard Progeny Install" and check those off then click
"Apply" and see what happens. Like the dist-upgrade, I had to
follow along and see what broke or what conflicted with what,
removed the things like anything "helix" oriented and then re-ran
the same "Apply" function to both the Minimal and Standard
Progeny Install. (I had most of my issues with anything GNOME.)
It took a while to get it all sorted out (a couple of hours last night)
but it all seems to work just fine, now. Just be patient.
A pint of Bass Ale sitting next to me made it go by much faster
and painlessly. ;)
What if everything is an illusion and nothing exists?
In that case, I definitely overpaid for my carpet.
