It's really hard to say what it is. I've been trying to do something different
today: get Tomcat to behave as you're experiencing it. Basically, I can't.
I've also been looking at some other ideas: get weblogic to use the same
superclass as Tomcat for JSP pages, org.apache.jasper.runtime.HttpJspBase
(supposedly possible, but the documentation in 10.3 is sparse or warns of
deprecation). Maybe the {{<%@ page extends %>}} directive?
A fresh set of eyes such as yours is always helpful.
