Sorry Matt, I wasn't on this list. The Struts-spring plugin uses Spring as the factory for actions, so to set the connection object, you could configure it as a dependency for the action. What I think you are getting at is to do this for each action class can be very tedious.
Possible solutions to cut down this additional configuration would be to use wildcards, match action classes, or use the parameter attribute of an action mapping to name the spring Action to retrieve. Considering the super small size of the plugin, it should be easy to add any of these.
