Here some links I found very useful for me to get familiar with struts within less 
than 2 weeks:

Both are very good sites with examples I could follow better than the ones shipped 
with struts. You might have to take care as they use struts1.0 if I remember right. 
But in the basics the differences are less important.

Also you should have a look at the developer guides at 

http://jakarta.apache.org/struts/doc-1.0.2/struts-html.html
