Peeps, I did ~two years ago~ a solution using Qt Location for subsurface and showed to Dirk. It used QGroundControl's GoogleMaps plugin + a bit of integration. Back then we couldn't integrate that in Qt because of licenses issues, I'm not sure currently about the licenses of QGC but I know that they already have code to integrate Qt Location with Google Maps, in a library that's easily linked with subsurface and things works.
