I found three more problems with my approach, requiring changes to both my fork
of qlitehtml and to Subsurface.

But I am somewhat hopeful that this might do the trick?

in a fresh directory (JUST to be sure...)

curl -O
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/subsurface/subsurface/refs/heads/dirkhh-macos/scripts/macos-ssrf-dev-start.sh

bash macos-ssrf-dev-start.sh -clean -branch dirkhh-macos

open subsurface/build/Subsurface.app

please note: different branch, slightly different syntax to execute.

at least for me, starting from a clean VM, this builds Subsurcface with Qt 6
with working maps and working user manual.

/D
