There is was article in the British Sundial Society Bulletin No 89/2 entitled "A Remote Reading Sundial" by W.G.Benoy that used fibre optics. Worth reading.
I must have missed it, someone must already have remarked that the "Hand Dial" was probably the first digital sundial - apologies to Bob Kellog Mike Shaw N 53.37 W 3.02
