Dear friends,
I have taken some photographs of the solar eclipse of 11 August on the
sundial of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Rome. (How is it called in English
this type of sundial?)
The sundial is in progress of restauration, as can see from the two photos
that I attach among a lot I have taken. They are been taken in the moment
of the passage of the Sun on the Meridian, but at that time, as you can
ascertain, the eclipse was in descending phase. The number 50 in bronze
is the tangent of the zenith distance of the sun (50/100 = 0.5) at 12 of
local apparent time in Rome on 11 August 1999.
Regards. Mario Catamo
