Hi Tony et al,

I believe it was a relatively ordinary dial, but with declination lines for the equinoxes, solstices etc.  Not bad for an eleven year old, especially with no calculators, slide rules or trig tables!

I missed the location too, but will look out for it next time round.  Perhaps they would like a reconstruction!

Regards,

John

Fellow Shadow Watchers,
BBC Knowledge has just shown a 'Local Heroes'
programme in which Adam Harte-Davis described an unusual sundial made by
one John Canton as an eleven year old. I was so busy writing down his
name that I missed the  name of the place.

It sounded rather like a 'double horizontal'.

Does it still exist?  How did it worK?

Best Wishes
