I have seen references to Egyptian obelisks, built circa 3500 BCE, being used as sundials, or as a minimum to divide the day into morning and afternoon. I would be most grateful if someone could provide a citation for this. When were obelisks first used for sundials? (The earliest Egyptian shadow clocks are dated circa 1500 BCE.)
