Dear Rudolf,   Thanks for your simple sketch which I think explains this to me. I was having trouble understanding why, from the bridge, the girls could see the moon but not its reflection. Your sketch shows how the reflection is obscured by the houses. One message in this thread said that if the eye was at water level the reflection would be seen "for sure", but I could not see why the same light which was being obscured by the same houses from the same moon in the same position, would suddenly become visible. But from your sketch, I assume that as my height (on the bridge) vanishes to zero (at waters edge), so the parallel lines in your sketch come close enough to merge into one (the line of sight is the same as the line of reflection). Thus, provided the moon itself was visible (and not obscured by houses) the reflection must also be visible.
