Hello Friends,

The Compendium for September 2004 (vol 11, number 3) p. 11-17 has an article by Gianni Ferrari with a lot of information about Mario's sundial -- see Part 2, "Sundial With Hour Windows."

Best wishes,

Dear Willy,

in the year 2001, with the mathematical help of Gianni Ferrari, I made a sundial un a semicilinder surface. The dial is inside a fountain, and it works in a different way of an usual sundial. The light pass through the back of the cilinder inside narrow windows, and reach a little rounded window (one for each hour) in the front of it (the concavity). You may see images at the address <http://digilander.libero.it/McArdal/Fontana_delle_ore.htm>http://digilander.libero.it/McArdal/Fontana_delle_ore.htm and the photos of the work in progress on the page <http://digilander.libero.it/McArdal/Fontana%20delle%20ore2.htm>http://digilander.libero.it/McArdal/Fontana%20delle%20ore2.htm in this page one of the photos shows the noon round window completely lighted.
