I'm sorry you feel that way.  But I would like to answer you in a civilized way if I may.

First of all, I did not get that photo from your website.  I found it elsewhere on the internet. (an image search on Yahoo if I remember).  I didn't even know about your webpage.  And even if I had copied it from your webpage, you do not say anywhere on your webpage that it is copyright protected!  In fact, I had no idea that it was your sundial.  So you better find out who copied it first, because it wasn't me.  You've already lost control of it because you put it on a website.

Secondly, most dialists and artists would be proud and honored if somebody wanted to post a photo of one of their dials on an educational, non-profit webpage such as ours.  I can't undertstand your objection.  It seems very petty to me.

We will gladly remove your sundial from our collection and will never include any of your future sundials.

John

Thanks for alerting me to the previous theft. (That explains a thing I'd found puzzling: why the fullsize picture was blown up past its original resolution and therefore looks bad. I do find all kinds of sites decorating themselves with my feathers, some of which have cost me a fair amount of work and money.

The matter of control is well known; that doesn't make other people's work fair game -- and the same "loss of control" now exists with movies, music, and books; the courts are still taking a very dim view of piracy.

you do not say anywhere on your webpage that it is copyright protected!

Not true. Copyright is explicitly addressed on every webpage, to them that can read; also, current international copyright law no longer requires such a notice, nor even of authorship. To us honest people, this is very irritating since it makes it very hard to track down the person from whom to ask permission.

Anyway, thanks for removing my photograph.
