The sundial likely sees sun through the summer. The latitude of Toronto is
about 43.5. The maximum altitude of the sun at noon would be 70°
(90-43.5+23.5). The tangent of 70 is 2.75. The shadow from the eves would
project down by 2.75 times in the worst case. This may shadow the dial but not
the gnomon and lower portion that shows the time. The dial declines from south.
This should help to put more sun on he dial when the sun is really high.

I often search for sundials in May and June. The high sun does cause
significant shadow problems. Even if the scale is in sunlight but the dial is
in heavy contrast from the shadows. Perhaps I should respect what the sun is
telling me and take a siesta. But life is short, so many sundials, so little
time.

This is an attractive sundial John, thanks for posting this. Have you sent the
details to Larry to add it to the NASS Registry?

Regards,
Roger Bailey

Hi John,

A lovely looking sundial. Looks as if the house was made to fit the sundial.
During summer time, does the shadow from the house cover the sundial.

Subject: New Porcelain Wall Sundial Installed

Hi Dialists:

My new 38" diameter (1 meter) porcelain sundial has been installed on a
beautiful brick home near Toronto Canada. Notice the name of the street!

Client's Name: Mike & Dawn Razem

Street Address: 76 Sundial Crescent

City: Dundas

State: Ontario

Country: Canada

Postal code: L9H 7R8

A lot of work went into making it. Its face is porcelain baked onto a 3/32"
thick steel plate. Each color required a separate kiln firing. It has a powder
coated aluminum bezel and a brass ball nodus on a perpendicular gnomon.

It is the only porcelain dial I know of in Canada, and the largest porcelain
dial in North America that I know of.

Nothing beats the durability of porcelain if you want a colored sundial face.

I LOVE porcelain dials!
