3.1alpha includes new firmware. If you installed 3.1alpha by
upgrading from an earlier release then you're supposed to use
'utfwadm' to promote the new firmware into /tftpboot and tell
DHCP to start advertising it. This should be covered in the
Install Guide, I'll go check.
The rationale for not doing this automatically is that if you're
upgrading a machine then there's a chance that it might be only
one of several machines offering firmware and it would be bad if
different machines were offering different firmware revisions.
That would cause DTUs to continually be reloading firmware
depending on which DHCP response they accepted. So the promotion
and advertising of new firmware is left as a manual step to be
performed by the admin after he has upgraded all of the machines
that need to be upgraded.
The same rationale applies to patches.
