Is this monitor so ancient that it doesn't report its supported
timings through DDC? Is it possible that you're using a bad cable,
or that the cable isn't properly connected? Was the monitor
powered on when you powered on the Sun Ray?

Yes, but I use a RGB-cable (VGA-cable got lost somehow, an dthis
cable does not support DDC).
Definately go get yourself a new (fully wired) VGA cable. This is such
an ANNOYING problem that can be so easily fixed by spending a few dollars.
I once purchased 100 * (uber-cheap) VGA cables not realizing they didn't
have the DDC pin connected, oh the pain and anguish I suffered!!!
