They are using the Gnome Java desktop under Solaris 10 11/06 - no
patches applied to 11/06 either. Up front for the cash registers I am
using two Sunray 2's with Type 7 USB keyboards - PC layout.
One of the keyboards continually "locks up".
Some Type 7 keyboards generate high rates of USB
errors, and the original Sun Ray firmware will stop
accepting input from a device (in this case the hub in
the keyboard) if the error count outruns the good input
count by a certain margin. I haven't heard of it
happening within minutes though, you must have an
exceptionally "good" example of one of the afflicted
keyboards. Sun Service might be interested in
exchanging this one under warranty so that the
keyboard people can take a look at it.
The latest SRSS firmware contains a workaround for
this problem. It no longer blacklists the keyboard. So,
install the latest 3.1 patch, make sure that the Sun Ray
units download the new firmware, and see whether
that clears up the problem.
It's possible that the keyboard that fails within minutes
will still be too flaky for production use if it's being put
through bus recovery every few minutes. All the more
reason to call for a warranty replacement.
