Thanks for the reply, I will have to try to gather some more information next time. I am using a JVM from java.sun.com (1.5 I believe). After a quick look last time, I can say disk space is not an issue (nor was memory itself). I'll dig deeper next time, just that when this does happen it brings down our entire MathCS department, so time is not really on my side. Looking in the standard syslog I saw nothing that would jump out (no OOM's or the like). I'll post back with more info next time it happens.
