While I 100% agree with you and actually feel the pain of the free/not free dilemma these are things that you need to bring up to your Sales rep who can pass on your customer information to marketing. If you just buy Sun Rays off ebay and want a clear conscience that being "legal" gives you, you're probably out of luck. Rest assured we don't have secret Sun Ray police running around checking up on RTU's. How do we enforce RTU's? Support. Can't get support without and RTU.

Most the folks on this alias from Sun are from the technical side who typically don't get involved in too many non-technical issues. That being said, we have managed to twist the arm of some of our marketing folks to at least view the digests and do voice our concerns from time to time. I think my exact phrase on the RTU issue was "what else are you going to use a Sun Ray for?".

That being said, one can argue that all thin clients have a tax. Wyse, Neoware, etc if you want to "manage" more than a hand full you must buy their enterprise license which just happens to be right around the RTU price.

What I'd like to see is the RTU just bundled in with the unit. I can't think of anything else I can really use the SunRays for. I'm going to need the RTU to (legally) use it. Why do we have to buy it separate (and try to track the licenses)? Only thing I can see is if I buy a new one to replace one that's failed. However, that's still a weak argument for separate RTUs.
