free dilemma these are things that you need to bring up to your Sales

:-) Spoken like one that knows how the system is *supposed* to work, but isn't stuck with the reality of how it *actually* works (or doesn't work as the case may be). We can't even GET a proper Sales rep! We just get passed around between a couple of names that don't ever answer our requests (or told to call a Sun vendor 3 hours away that is equally unresponsive). The only way we seem to be able to buy anything is on the web (which we finally seem to have some limited partner type access to now after about a year of effort on our part). We have a possible very large project coming up and were able to get some very nice techs on the phone (eventually, not sure HOW we managed to get through all the obstructions and reach real people that time!) to discuss the details of implementation. However, it doesn't seem like anyone at Sun sales has any interest in actually SELLING us the hardware to do it!

being said, we have managed to twist the arm of some of our marketing
folks to at least view the digests and do voice our concerns from time
to time. I think my exact phrase on the RTU issue was "what else are
you going to use a Sun Ray for?".

And I thank you very much! :-) Those of us out here that are trying to use this stuff need all the help you can give! I don't know what kind of internal issues Sun faces with the sales and marketing departments, but from the customer standpoint it looks like they go out of their way to make it difficult to buy things!

That being said, one can argue that all thin clients have a tax. Wyse,
Neoware, etc if you want to "manage" more than a hand full you must buy
their enterprise license which just happens to be right around the RTU
price.

However, you don't have to... You can legally buy them and use them all standalone... I really like the SunRay concept the best, and would like to even deploy it at home. Unfortunately, with all the licensing mess, I'll probably end up deploying the Wyse solution there because it's less of a hassle paperwork-wise. Not anywhere near as elegant a solution, but I really don't need to take all the licensing hassles home with me at night too.
