We use the visualization system on two v440s (Dual XVR-1200s). We
usually get the best performance by running local SR sessions and
setting VGL_COMPRESS=0 to enable raw mode.
If we connect remotely (from another Sun Ray server) via `ssh -X` the
Sun Ray plugin works automatically as long as one does not set
VGL_COMPRESS. Setting VGL_COMPRESS will seems to bypass the Sun Ray
plugin in and use whatever the setting is - direct or raw mode.
For us, the visualization system work well and provides the performance
we need for our applications.
Hope that helps,

Does anyone know the frame update rate of the Sun Ray 2's?
I have built a V245 with a single XVR2500 Graphics Card. I'm running
Solaris 10 with latest OpenGL. I also have the latest version of SRSS
4.0 configured.
I installed the Sun Visualization on the same V245. The application I
am running is called Socet GXP, this is a Electronic Light Table
Imagery program. The application tiles images and uses OpenGL as you
navigate and manipulate the image. I configured the visualization
software using the install guide for my configuration. The main
problem is that I am not getting the performance I expected, the
application does work, but it is very jerky.
Is anybody in the list using the Sun visualization, I don't know what to
expect.
The performance is not up to usable levels. I also tried to
connect from a remote Sun Ray server to use the Sun Ray plug-in, but I
was not
able to make this work. This of course is a configuration issue. All
comments would be appreciated.
Thanks
