We had a similar problem: utauthd would eventually go off into La La
land and not respond. Sun finally traced the problem to an active but
unconfigured network port. No, no one ever explained the logic on this one.
It was a kernel bug that caused the auth manager to end up in an
uninterruptible sleep.
