In your gdm.conf (more likely custom.conf or gdm.conf-custom), in the [Daemon] 
section, set 
Greeter=/usr/lib/gdm/gdmlogin

How would I switch that? e.g. so that "gdmlogin" is used and not "gdmgreeter" ?
