If you really need X running on the server, you can try the following, it
works for me with xrdp so I can remote in from a Windows machine:

In [daemon] :
FlexibleXServers=1

In [servers]:
0=Custom

Then add this at the end:
[server-Custom]
name=Custom
flexible=true
command=/usr/bin/X11/X
