Just wanted to wrap this thread up. Ultimately, using Xephyr did the trick. We didn't even have to reconfigure the SRSS host, just swapped my session startup scripts to call Xephyr instead of Xnest. Works like a champ now. Thanks to all who offered suggestions.

Xnest on Solaris 10 is an old release, based on the X11R6.6 sources
mixed into the Xsun code base.   You might try the newer /usr/X11/bin/Xephyr
which also opens a X server nested in an X window, but based off the Xorg
sources and supporting newer extensions (like Render&  Composite) than Xnest.
