The "RTU" that Sun sold serves the same purpose as the Oracle Named User/Sun Ray Client license. Sun Sold: Sun Ray Software Right to Use (Licensed by concurrent user) (Required for Sun Ray and OVDC clients) Sun Ray Software support (Paid based on # of RTU's) Sun Ray Device Support (Extended support and exchange for Sun Ray Devices) Oracle Sells: Sun Ray Software License (Licensed by Named User+ or Client Device) (Required for Sun Ray and OVDC clients) Sun Ray Software Support (Paid based on # of Sun Ray Software Licenses) Sun Ray Device Support (Extended Support and quick exchange for Devices. Is required for Firmware right to firmware updates) If you intend to do a VDI installation, you won't purchase Sun Ray licenses at all. You will purchase VDI licenses. VDI software and licenses include the Sun Ray technology, the Broker components and the usage of the Virtual Box hypervisor. VDI can be installed on Oracle Linux/RHEL or Solaris. Support for the underlying OS is priced separately. VDI is licensed also by Named User or Client Device. > > If possible, can you provide the link to Oracle Licensing rules and outline > which licenses and supports (best of all - with which list prices) would be > relevant to some customer building a VDI solution with the Sun/Oracle stack > (SRSS, SGD, VDI, VirtualBox or OracleVM, Solaris at least for server and > storage environments, DSEE for user/network/etc. directory) on Sun and > non-Sun x86 hardware (a farm of servers or an OEM blade box comes to mind)? > > As I gather from numerous forums, even two years after the merge, many people > have problems buying Oracle stuff not only because of pricing and vague > understanding of Oracle licensing, but because even their sellers don't know > what and how to sell. > > So having some (semi-)official lineup at least for this small subject would > be nice :) > > Thanks in advance, > //Jim > Brad Lackey | Technical Enablement Manager Mobile: +13038758616 Oracle Global Desktop Virtualization San Diego , CA
