Hi Jeff & Listers, I should always remember "details" when addressing, your
comments are interesting as always, I never really understood the meaning
of ATAPI & IDE until I read your response to my DVD question. I did a search
found some material at a Stanford U site, "Defining" & "PCI timing issues"
which is what I think you were detailing...I then went to "XLR8yourmac.com"
and found your comments on their "drive database pages" with your DVD
experiences.

Details here:
S900, xlr8G3/400 processor card, PCI slots as follows: #1 ATI Radeon
for Mac (32)
#2 Sonnet Tempo ATA 100 #3 Adaptec USB (2port) all other slots are empty.
No SCSI cards in use...Zip, Yamaha 2100S burner, Matshita CDROM all on MoBo.
3 Hard Drives all IDE, Seagate (40gig)"Single" Partitioned for OS9.1 & OSX,
IBM & WD (20gigeach) Master & Slave....I don't want to run SCSI at
all, the drives
connected to MoBo are working well enough for me, so that means ATAPI/IDE
as my path... Can I "Slave" another device to the "Single" Seagate? the DVD....

It looks like I can find a DVD-ROM fairly cheap, the ACER looks good
and I guess the
"Wired4DVD" is essential for adequite playback, I can't seem to find
one anywhere,
any hints...OWC doesn't seem to list them anymore, though I might
call. I guess the
unknown is how the Sonnet will behave?

I am really having fun tinkering with these machines, "pushing the
envelope" so to
speak, I've as you know recovered from recent "troubles".
Successfully installed OSX
MoBo -SCSI, then "cloned" to IDE, a dream! I've subscribed to "Unsupported OSX"
and have been reading both with lists, with much interest. As always
thanks in advance.
