I am writing for my mother who has a problem that I hope somebody can help me iron out. She has a supermac c500 that she uses in her classroom. Recently she got the infamous flashing question mark on start-up. I have been to the Apple site and based on their advice tried starting the machine w/o extensions, and resetting the PRAM... no change. Based on the messages on this list I suspect the HD has simply died. I would, however, like to be sure. Her school district has been unable to find the start-up software for the machine. What would be the best way to proceed? Is there a way to get another set of system software for this machine? What OS was this system shipped with? Is there a way to test the HD without booting from the system software disk (CD?)? Thanks for your time, the kiddies will appreciate it!
