1. Can anyone think of any reasons why a PowerLogix G3 900MHz ZIF in an XLR8
CarrierZIF SSE (six-slot enabled) won't work in a S900? PowerLogix says it
should work, but they won't provide tech support for it.

We're waiting for someone to do the experiment. It should work...

2. Is the XLR8 CarrierZIF SSE (MPe) required to use ZIFs in the S900 or can
I get away with the cheaper XLR8 CarrierZIF?

The SSE version is not needed in the S900. First, it is only needed with G4 processors, not with G3 processors. Second, the 9500, 9600 and PTP get their six slots using a different architecture than the S900. It is that other architecture for which the SSE is built. The S900 has it's own issues, but it does not have the issue which the SSE version of the card addresses. So, unless you think you might want to put the card in a 9500, etc., with a G4 processor some day, there's no need to get the SSE version.
