Hi
One update to these queries: I have solved the USB card problem in part, after reading the Belkin support page again and ignoring some of the advice about their card requirements. They say that with OS9 and above all the software needed is included with the OS itself but if running OS8.6 you will have to download Apples own USB software v1.4.1. Well I downloaded and installed it anyway and BINGO, lit up like a christmas tree! So you can't always believe what you're told. Obviously the version of OS9.1 I've got didn't include these bits and bobs. I'm still not sure why it won't work in bottom slots, although this will only be a problem now if I want to fill the top slot with something else I suppose.

The info from Belkin is correct. The Mac OS 9.x and above includes all the needed software. What they didn't tell you was all the drivers for USB may only be installed if the USB card was installed at the time of the last Mac OS install. Oddly Mac OS sometimes seems to install everything with no regards as to if you need it or not. Generally not the case with USB drivers at least on our machines. It may also be like the Firewire drivers. Mac OS installed a couple of Firewire drivers but not the one I needed which took a while to figure out. I could see firewire drivers so thought it should work.So it maybe just as easy to do as you did and download the needed drivers . You could have also done a custom install of the USB drivers from the Mac OS CD. I seem to remember this isn't as easy to figure out as it should be. As Jeff W said most USB (and Firewire cards ) will work in any PCI slots. However they may not be seen by Apple system profiler . Combo won't work except for top two slots. Will S
