Buy any Realtek 8139 based card.... (you will find dozens on ebay normally from 3 ($5)). Then go to the realtek website (www.realtek.com.tw) and download the Mac drivers (9 and X).
You might have to make a resedit change to the OS 9 drivers to change the vendor ID, but it is really easy and there are instructions supplied with the driver.....
Definitely the cheapest way of adding OS X and OS 9 ethernet support to a C500....
Cheers

What ethernet cards are compatible with the C500? Someone put an Asante card in this machine, but "Ethernet" doesn't show up in the TCP/IP control panel, just "MacIP". So I found a 3com card, a 3C900B-TPO EtherLink XL PCI, but it doesn't seem to be recognized by the machine either. Apple System Profiler lists unknown for both > cards.
Is there a list of cards compatible with this machine? Any for sale?
