Hi Eric, That you are able to startup with the shift key indicates that there is still an extension conflict of some sort. Unfortunately, the control panel that Apple provides does not offer complete control of all the files that can be loaded at startup. In this context, an extension is any process that loads in the System heap--that area of RAM set aside for the OS--whether it is called extension, control panel, etc. The order of the files to read is alphabetical from within the following containers in this order: System suitcase, Extensions folder, Control Panels folder, System Folder. Corrupted files in other folders, such as Fonts, Contextual Menu Items, Control Strip Modules, Editors, etc., can also cause instability, but that usually doesn't show up until after the other elements have been loaded because they need the earlier elements to be enabled. The processor card should be designed to work--although not at its full potential--without any additonal software installed on the hard disk. Those particular daughter cards have a good reputation for stability and compatibility, so unless you have a lemon, you shouldn't be having such trouble. Try resetting the CUDA and see if that helps. Since you encounter instability even with extensions disabled suggests there could be a timing problem that is either causing or is caused by file corruption. Sometimes when the CPU is upgraded, minor glitches that the system can recover from happen so fast that there is no chance for correction and it freezes. Shuffling RAM cards and/or de-interleaving them can sometimes alleviate this. Hope this suggests a solution for you. -- Paul F.
