Tom,

I have to agree with you on that. The only possible explanation is that
there is some proprietary software for setup, popup blocking, channeling
etc. that doesn't run under earlier versions, all of which you can probably
do without. All broad band modems use either USB--which is a PITA-- or
10base-T Ethernet, which has been the same standard since 1976. If it is the
setup script that is the issue, you should have no problem getting the info
from tech support so you can enter it manually. Otherwise run as fast as you
can in the other direction: if they can't talk you through setup, I don't
want to think about what would happen with a real problem ;)
