Gee first I procrastinate, then I want it all done at once!. I tried loading all 4
sticks of new ram
at once without luck. Then I read at OWC that the original 8MB sticks can be
problematic, so I
pulled them, still no luck. Finally I pulled all the ram out, put one new stick in,
hit the CUDA and
it fired up. I put in another, hit the CUDA and it fired. I did this with each of the
4 new sticks
plus two 64mb sticks I'd removed, starting up after adding each stick. Tonight I plan
to run the
XLR8 Power Control software Will S. sent me a few years ago to test the ram overnight.
What comes
around goes around- my next step will be to put in an XLR8 board with a 450 G4ZIF,
once the memory
checks out. Then brace yourselves for the help cries as I begin the upgrade to OSX
which I have to
do to keep up with retouching tasks in photoshop for a friend who is running
PhotoshopCS which only
runs on OSX. Thanks again for the support of the group in problemsolving. Oh yes, to
Drew Becket-
once you have a stable ram instilation you can turn the ram monitor off in the control
panel- I ran
acorss the how to in the FAQ at the Memory topic at the OWC help site. It's probably
also in the Mac
Bible- you have to open the Memory control panel and control click something? It'll
save you 4
minutes of boot time. Paul
