In my recent attempts to install a dual boot linux/os9.1 system on my S900 I
have run into a few bumps but currently I am fairly stuck. In order to
install Debian I need to boot into the BIOS (OpenFirmware). I've been told
that the keyboard shortcut on most macs is command+option+O+F on startup.
When I do this I hear the chime but my screen stays completely black and my
monitor does not recieve a signal (the light on the corner - not on the
screen - continues to flash rather than show a constant light). I am using
a PC monitor through my TwinTurbo card so my guess is that I have booted
into OpenFirmware but it does not want to send a monitor output stream to a
PC monitor or to my graphics card entirely. Any ideas on how this might be
fixed?
Eric,
This is a bit out of my league, but I will pass on what I know about booting up in Open Firmware. I don't think the PC monitor is the problem. I have booted up in OF with a Winbook Flatpanel monitor attached with no problems. Is your monitor run through any kind of adapter? Or, does it need any special drivers? Apple considered the TwinTurbo PCI card a "native" at one point, but I don't know about the one that came with the S900.
You might also try zapping/resetting the NVRAM before booting up in Open Firmware (hold down the Command + Option + P + R keys for two chimes at startup). There are some monitor settings that are reset to their defaults when you zap the PRAM/NVRAM.
